Using Digital Nautical Charts (or charting) is not necessary on short trips, but it’s fun. This is what our vessel looks like while enroute to the 14 Mile Bank. We cruised from 30 to 40 knots, but here we slowed down anticipating some trolling at the shallow portion of the mountain range beneath us. However, the depth is not accurate in this image, as we were still deaccelerating. We ended up fishing about 20 nautical miles from the coastland, which was southeast of the Santa Catalina Islands.
