The Silicon Valley Bank collapse and more things to come
Like many others, over the last two years, my wife & I have lost money that we’ve invested in retirement accounts, etcetera. But we know the Lord decrees these things, perhaps as His inevitable judgment. As this worsens, sadly, people with no hope will sinfully commit suicide. But by faith, we do not complain but instead, trust and rejoice in Him.
The bottom line is our lives will be summed up in this passage. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 says,
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.”
That’s a scary thought to know God even knows our thoughts and secrets, and I’ve broken His Commandments, and Judgment Day is coming.
This word “keep’ in vs 13 is a similar verb to the Greek tērēsete in John 14:15, or the tēreō in 1 John 5:3. It is the Hebrew word shâmar, which means to circumspectly put a hedge around and protect His Commandments. To take heed to. To mark, keep, protect, observe, preserve, regard, to reserve. To celebrate and keep i.e. the Sabbath Day, which is the Fourth Commandment.
Keeping God’s Commandments and loving His Law is not a general expectation, they are His specific command. Are you keeping God’s Commandments? Are you fearing Him?
Therefore, in the end, it won’t matter how much money you have in the bank, or not. What will matter is ‘was your sin debt paid for?’
For God’s elect, the good news is, Christ paid their sin debt. Christ has redeemed, forgiven, expiated, and propitiated the sins of His chosen people. He not only removed the penalty of this sinner’s sins, but He has also removed the guilt of all my sins.
Lord, by Your grace, help me fear You and keep Your Commandments. And as You prayed in John 17:20-26, help all believers in this regard.
For those of you that are not born-again, if it is God’s will perhaps He save you too. Read the Good News below. Then repent, believe (Mark 1:15) & obey His glorious Gospel (2 Thess 1:7-9).
