Tonight’s forecasted “Deadly Tornado Outbreak” in my area, a Christian response
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) and all meteorologists I’ve reviewed all agree that this evening those who live in Northeast Arkansas, my portion of Tennessee, and a portion of Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois and Indiana are all in the most severe “eye of the storm.” Most agree that from one to five, we who are in the eye of this storm, is a “Category 5 for tornadoes, including long-track EF3+ tornadoes, high winds and hailstorms are likely.” A few meteorologists stated a “tornadic supercell” is developing a possible “deadly tornado outbreak” (I chose this infographic because it seemed to be in the middle of all the hype).
It’s not easy navigating through all the warnings or opinions of Meteorologists, Storm Spotters, Storm Chasers, and even police agencies, but one thing is for sure. The most unsettling place to get your weather predictions from, is the many severe weather-related Facebook groups. Even here in the so-called Bible Belt, none of them allow Christians to discuss the Lord, the Scriptures, and/or share the Gospel. The most recent post where a person stated how “scared” they were, asking for advice, my brief comment asking him or her to read my Gospel tract was removed. As Romans 1 said the unregenerate and reprobates suppress the truth in their unrighteousness. God did not call Christians to obey Facebook rules that truncate His Word. He commanded us to obey Him and preach (or share) His glorious Gospel to everyone possible. But since I just renewed my website hosting package with my internet service provider, I will share this here as well as social media platforms.
Our sovereign Lord decrees the degrees. His holy hand is on the thermostat. Almighty God decrees (ordains) them as His due judgment and a demonstration of His omnipotence, glory, majesty, and splendor.
Some have argued with me saying that God doesn’t decree them, He only “allows” them. Though they may be sincere, they are sincerely wrong about who God is. That’s my nice way of saying they’re a false teacher.
Others allege these tornadic storms are caused by “global warming,” “climate change,” and/or “chemtrails.” But I say to them, it is God who changes the climate as He chooses. It is God who is the first cause of the storm. It is God who is on His throne, and it is God who is in control.
Back in 1997 when Big Eva Mike Huckabee was Governor of Arkansas, he used his executive powers to change the language in a legislative bill omitting the words stating that tornado disasters were an “act of God.” He had the wording changed to “natural disasters.” Again, that is a mischaracterization of who God is or is not.
Chapter 3, Paragraph 1 of the London Baptist Confession of Faith (1689) is an accurate summary of the Decrees of God.
“God hath decreed in himself, from all eternity, by the most wise and holy counsel of His own will, freely and unchangeably, all things, whatsoever comes to pass;1 yet so as thereby is God neither the author of sin nor hath fellowship with any therein;2 nor is violence offered to the will of the creature, nor yet is the liberty or contingency of second causes taken away, but rather established;3 in which appears His wisdom in disposing all things, and power and faithfulness in accomplishing His decree.4”
(1) Isa. 46:10; Eph. 1:11; Heb. 6:17; Rom. 9:15,18, (2) James 1:13; 1 John 1:5, (3) Acts 4:27-28; John 19:11, (4) Num. 23:19; Eph. 1:3-5.
The Baptist Catechism by Benjamin Keech said,
Q. 11. What are the decrees of God?
A. The decrees of God are His eternal purpose, according to the counsel of His will, whereby for His own glory, He has fore-ordained whatsoever comes to pass (Eph. 1:11; Rom. 11:36; Dan. 4:35).
Q. 12. How does God execute His decrees?
A. God executes His decrees in the works of creation and providence. (Gen. 1:1; Rev. 4:11; Matt. 6:26; Acts 14:17).
The fact is, America has become just like Egypt, and the same God that sent plagues or storms upon Egypt is the same God who will send the same to America. In some states He judges with water droughts and fires, others with earthquakes, excessive rain, hail, tornadoes hurricanes etcetera. Either way, the Judgement of Almighty God is inevitable. Therefore, God might change, increase, or decrease these aforementioned weather forecasts as He pleases, for His glory and good pleasure. Dei Voluntas Fiat!
Below is just a handful of the many Scriptures on storms that God decrees. God did not “allow” this to happen, He decreed it.
But the Lord sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken. - Jonah 1:4
The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite. God is jealous, and the Lord revengeth; the Lord revengeth, and is furious; the Lord will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies. The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the Lord hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. - Nahum 1:1-3
The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him. - Nahum 1:7
And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the Lord rained hail upon the land of Egypt. - Exodus 9:23
Behold, a whirlwind of the Lord is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked. - Jeremiah 23:19
A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the Lord hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the Lord. Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth. - Jeremiah 25:31-32
Behold, the whirlwind of the Lord goeth forth with fury, a continuing whirlwind: it shall fall with pain upon the head of the wicked. The fierce anger of the Lord shall not return, until he hath done it, and until he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it. - Jeremiah 30:23-24
As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation. - Proverbs 10:25
And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire. - Ezekiel 1:4
So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm. - Psalm 83:15
O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong Lord like unto thee? Or to thy faithfulness round about thee? Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them. - Psalm 89:8-9
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; - Romans 1:18
And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great. - Revelation 16:18-21
Last but certainly not least, if a tornado is near your community, it is wise to seek shelter (if you choose), or as a Reformed Baptist pastor counseled me in a text “Wisdom would be to think like a Coney!” (Psalm 104:18 & Prov 30:26). But as Jesus warned in Matthew 10:28 “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
Please read my Gospel tract here or below, it surely is Good news for the elect. Repent towards God and flee to Christ for the salvation of your soul. Under the shelter of His wings is the best place to be.
