Video of a Reformed Baptist Pastor Evangelizing the Public 👆

Because this video was uploaded to this channel, I established a new Facebook connection with another Reformed Baptist Pastor. Similarly, like myself, he desires to connect to like-minded Heralds of the Gospel.

In a personal dialog with me, he expressed his concern with the growing number of “reformed” evangelists that prefer to “get tied up in arguments with people,” and when “this arguing happens, it seems like very little gospel gets preached, and there is much more heat than light.” He also stated that “We do not allow hecklers to continuously trample the pearl. Do you have any insight on this?”

I couldn’t agree with this Pastor more, and I found him to be encouraging and hopeful. Encouraging for me to press-on, and hopeful that there are more orthodox Reformed Baptists heralds out there. The following is a part of what I replied to him.

Regarding apologetics:

“Though I engage in apologetics, I do not consider myself an apologist, and I rarely upload my conversations evangelizing others. As I stated in another post, “Every born-again Christian is called to evangelize, but not every Christian is an evangelist (which I am). And the same goes with apologetics. Every Christian is called to engage in apologetics, but not every Christian is an apologist (which I am not).” Frankly I see too much boasting, pride, and man-centeredness amongst those who call themselves apologists; and God is a jealous God. Moreover, as Dr. Voddie Baucham said, “Is your apologetics calling God a liar?” Because the Gospel is the power of God onto salvation. Through all of my evangelism and/or apologetics efforts, I have never been successful in getting a sinner to repent, convert, or change their mind otherwise. Because it is GOD who does this, not me. I’m nothing but a worm in His hand. Let us boast 100% in Him, not in ourselves. Soli Deo Gloria!”

Regarding allowing hecklers to trample on our pearls:

Nowhere in the Scriptures are evangelists (or street preachers) told first to get the world’s permission to preach. Or, to meet them where they’re at. Or, to earn their respect. Nowhere in the Scriptures are Christians told to accommodate the world. Nowhere in the Scriptures are we told to only preach to crowds that are willing to listen. Nowhere in the Scriptures are we told to redact, truncate, or replace the preaching of the glorious Gospel with tricks, gimmicks, gadgets, skits, magic, music, entertainment, cash giveaways, gift card giveaways, trivia questions, word games, jokes, or comedy. Nowhere in the Scriptures are we told to give the heckler a microphone and a box to stand on, so they can blaspheme the Lord and use profanity. We ought to be thankful that these evangelists are out there. But when our evangelism efforts become more man-centric, and less Gospel-centric; it’s no longer orthodox Biblical evangelism, it is heterodox pragmatism.
