Video using the ‘Las Vegas shooting massacre’ as a segue into my sermon, many became angry & hostile – Warning: This video contains much profanity
Today while preaching I used the shooting of the ‘Route 91 Harvest’ concert as a ‘segue’ into my open-air sermon. It’s amazing how many believe that all victims of a horrific crime, will “RIP.” And when I ‘attempted’ to teach what the Bible says about this, many in this crowd became very hostile and intense. Even ‘professing’ Christians on Facebook get extremely angry when you mention the victims need for salvation. Even popular ‘Bible scholars’ on social media are watering down the truth. Do we not care about their souls? Shall we make everyone comfortable on their way to hell? Shall we preach everyone into heaven?
You are too delicate to tell the man that he is ill. You hope to heal the sick without their knowing it. You therefore flatter them. And what happens? They laugh at you. They dance upon their own graves and at last they die. Your delicacy is cruelty, your flatteries are poisons; you are a murderer. Shall we keep men in a fool’s paradise? Shall we lull them into soft slumber from which they will awake in hell? Are we to become helpers of their damnation by our smooth speeches? In the name of God we will not! – Charles Spurgeon
Just a few additional thoughts. This calling is bitter-sweet. Naturally and understandably open-air preachers are hated by the world (PTL), but unnaturally many ‘professing’ Christians oppose us too. For me, standing and preaching the glorious Gospel in the public arena, is the highest form of worship I’ve ever engaged in.
Open-air preaching is not always pretty. Jesus and His apostles were not always gentle. Sometimes we have to escalate and deescalate, as God gives grace to the humble, but He resists the proud. As I’ve said before, it is the Heralds or ‘boots in the street’ that work in stressful, unsafe, unpredictable, uncontrolled, unrehearsed, and sometimes even dangerous work environments; all of which is done free of salary.
I would encourage ya’ll to read what some of the Puritans, and dead old guys said about this passage, there’s martyrdom all over it. Most Americans still cannot comprehend, that even today in other parts of the world, a Christian is martyred every five-minutes for sharing the Gospel. Perhaps the Lord will soon ‘loosen the leash’ that he has on Satan over America. Then perhaps the sheep will be separated from the goats.
“Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10:27-28).
