HeartCry Missionary Society’s new “Gospel” tract?

I didn’t go looking for trouble; someone else brought it to my attention. Rightfully so, some are concerned with the direction Paul Washer and his parachurch ministry have been or are headed. The HeartCry Missionary Society (HCMS) has published a new “Gospel” tract (here or below).

Regretfully, I have fallen miserably short of writing (or publishing) things I later regretted. Some of that ‘stuff’ I wrote (or said) still resurfaces on the internet. I hate that about myself. Just last week once seeing a new comment to a video I uploaded back in 2012, I removed that video. But this HCMS tract is a new, current, and ongoing publication.

Below are some of my observations and thoughts.

  • The HCMS tract is absent the Law. The Scriptures are clear the Moral Law is good to use while preaching (or sharing) the Gospel (1 Tim 1:8-11, Rom 7:7-12).
  • It has a truncated Gospel. Though there is a little about Christ’s “resurrection,” it remains silent on His death and burial (nor ascension).
  • The tract wrongfully uses 1 John 4:8-10 telling the lost world that God loves them. There’s much exclusivity in 1 John. It is written to Christians (the elect), not the lost world. God’s love is exclusively for His elect. God does not love reprobates He hates them.
  • HCMS is selling this tract. I have always believed the Gospel should not be for sale.

Over the years I have come to believe that since para church ministries cannot be found in the Scriptures, we should not support them and certainly not rely on them. They have become more hurtful than helpful. Why? Because local churches will negate or skirt their responsibilities over to a 3rd party ministry to do the job, they should be doing themselves as a local church. We see this often in so-called “missions” and the so-called ecumenical “pro-life” ministries.

A solution to this problem is local churches should publish their own Gospel tract. Christians should support their own local church, and actually do the work themselves, not farm it out to others.

“I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.” - 2 Timothy 4:1-5

Only by the grace of God so go I, the wretched man I am.
