Election sermonsMy brief election sermon that perhaps would be heard from the pulpits of our Nation centuries ago

By Bill Rhetts

This post applies to Christians only, and does not apply to non- Christians; nor should we expect this from them.

One of the worst characteristics that the Lord Jesus refuted, resisted, and rebuked; was hypocrisy. Followers of Christ are to not only apply Scriptures to Christian and/or church related issues. We are expected to apply the Holy Scriptures to every part of our daily lives. This would also apply to the political realm.

Everything that I am about to say, is Biblical, and not mere opinion.

The Bible says that judgment begins in the house of God. That Christians are to judge the church (the body of Christ), more than they are to judge the non-saved world. That Christians must remove (repent) the log (sin) from our own eyes, before we point-out splinters (or sins) in others eyes. Thus saith the Lord!

It is a sham, and a bad witness, when professing Christians are only subjectively seeing problems (or sins) with the ‘other party’ or the ‘other candidates,’ and never the consistent sins and compromises of their own.

Today both presidential candidates are tolerating, endorsing, condoning, and/or acquiescing to grave transgressions (sins) against our Holy God.

A vote is like a rifle. It’s usefulness depends upon the character of the user – Theodore Roosevelt.

Neither of the two candidates are born-again. Therefore, I do not expect much more from either of them. However, what I do expect from professing Christians, is that they would be objective seekers and bearers of the truth; rather than subjective hypocrites.

Remember when Jesus said “judge not lest you be judged?” He was talking to the hypocrites. Therefore if you are allowing hypocrisy in your lives, decisions, posts, or opinions; then you are sinning against God, and you must repent. Repentance does not mean repeat – repeat – repeat.

I now cringe at the thought of those three words that I used to say – “God bless America!” To ask (or expect) a Righteous Sovereign Just Holy God to bless a country that has continually and increasingly transgressed His Holy Laws, all the way from the highest levels of both legislative and jurisprudence; is not only asking too much from God, it implies that You do not fear the Lord. Or perhaps for some, it is taking the name of the Lord in vein.

Christ’s bride (His church) must be beautiful, and her dress must not be all spotted, and wrinkled.

Frankly what America deserves is persecution and judgment. Let us put Christ, His Gospel, and His bride first and foremost. It is only then, that the Great Almighty ‘might’ bless this country again.

As always – Ye must be born again. Repent – be salt and light – be holy – be sanctified – fear God – pray without ceasing – keep His commandments – walk circumspectly – believe in and trust Jesus – obey the Gospel – share the Gospel – preach the Gospel – contend for the faith, – hate the things that God hates, and love the things that God loves – keep the faith, work-out your salvation, and endure to the end!
