Two National sins are on next week’s ballet

Though my sins as a straight man are many, it’s troubling how many ‘professing’ Christians have sinfully normalized, equalized, and/or acquiesced to homosexuality as being no different from other sins.

Historically, abortion and homosexuality were known as national sins. It was normal to expect professing Christians to consider how their presidential candidates positioned themselves on these matters.

But sadly, in the postmodern era, perhaps a majority of alleged Christians have not only become silent on homosexuality. They have campaigned for, promoted, and voted for candidates who are advocates of homosexuality.

While doing so, some of them are turning the unborn fetus into an idol. If the Triunity of the Godhead, His Law, the Gospel, and His Scriptures are not the Vanguard of the pro-life movement. The fetus has become idolatry. The Bible says God is a jealous God, and God will not be mocked.

And though these same professing Christians who have acquiesced to homosexuality are right to oppose abortion; they are clueless. God is not sitting in heaven biting His nails trying to figure out how to stop abortion. Though God is not the author of sin. Almighty God is so sovereign that He decrees all things to occur, including abortion. The judgment of Almighty God is inevitable. And so, I believe abortion is a part of God’s rightly due judgment upon our land.

Though it is arrogant to think my vote can thwart God’s judgment. It is equally wrong to think I should try to assist in ushering in His judgment. But because I fear God and love His Law and Commandments. I hate what God hates and love what God loves. I abhor both of these national sins, abortion and homosexuality. Therefore, I will not vote for a candidate who advocates for either sin.

During the night of the presidential election, I will lay my head on the pillow, knowing that before the foundation of this world, our sovereign Lord preordained and decreed who would be elected. Regardless of His results, I will not flinch in the face of adversity; I will rejoice.

“Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever” (Psalm 73:25-26).

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil” (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14).

“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Cor. 10:31).

As Webster said,

“In selecting men for office, let principle be your guide. Regard not the particular sect or denomination of the candidate – look to his character. It is alleged by men of loose principles, or defective views of the subject, that religion and morality are not necessary or important qualifications for political stations. But the Scriptures teach a different doctrine. They direct that rulers should be men who rule in the fear of God, able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness. When a citizen gives his suffrage to a man of known immorality he abuses his trust; he sacrifices not only his own interest, but that of his neighbor; he betrays the interest of his country.”

Noah Webster, American lexicographer, legislator, political writer
